Bodrum Patmos Day Trip

  Last Updated: July 7, 2024

One of several Greek islands within the vicinity of Bodrum is the island of Patmos in the Dodecanese, and it is only a short hop across from Bodrum to this historic island. The island of Patmos is typically dotted with the blue and white of so many Greek islands. One of the prettiest of the Dodecanese, it is also home to many beautiful golden beaches, flanked by the clearest of blue green waters.

Known as the island where St John was incarcerated by the Roman Emperor Domitianus, St John was persecuted and imprisoned here. It is said that while in prison on Patmos he wrote the book of Revelation. History and legend may blur the facts a little as he is also said to have written Revelation in the ancient city of Ephesus. St John certainly ended his days and was buried in the Ephesus region. While visiting this sunny Aegean island you can see where he was imprisoned before his release.

Here you can discover St John’s Monastery and the Convent of Evangelismos. Hardly surprising given its famous inhabitant that the island evolved with an air of Christianity.

When you arrive in the port of Skala you immediately begin to slow your heart rate to mirror island life. The friendliness of the Greek people living life easily beneath the Aegean sun is surprisingly addictive, you may even find yourself not wanting to leave.
