There is so much more to Tenerife than beautiful beaches and nightlife. You will most certainly want to step out of the resorts and explore the surrounding villages and stunning countryside. Whether you wish to explore the volcanic origins of the Island or set out to sea for some Whale watching there is something for everyone on Tenerife. Read on to find out what some of the locals recommend for your visit to Tenerife with some points of interest that you will not want to miss!

There are several theme parks and water parks on Tenerife that guarantee to be excellent days out to entertain all the family, from the youngest to oldest members. If you like animals and wildlife you may choose to visit Loro Park and see the wonderful parrots and exotic birds or you may choose to take a walk on the wild side at the wildlife park at Jungle Park. If water fun is more your thing then be sure to check out Siam Park, one of the themed water parks with plenty of slides and entertainment. A hint for those on a budget is to buy combined tickets at a discounted price!

Guests of all ages will enjoy the theme parks but there is even more on offer on Tenerife. For those with older children who want to experience an adrenalin rush while visiting the Island you may choose to take yourselves off for an afternoon of quad or buggy riding. This is a great way to combine some sightseeing with having a new and unique experience. You may even enjoy an afternoon out go-karting and a trip to Forestal Park is a great idea for the active family who like to experience adventure together!

As an Island you will find that the range of different boat trips on offer is plentiful! If you are in need of a relaxing day out then we would recommend that you try out one of the lazy day excursions. One opportunity that you shouldn’t miss while staying on Tenerife is the chance to spot some Whales and Dolphins in their natural habitat. When you are on the beaches or along the coast you can keep an eye out in the hope to spot some of these majestic creatures but we highly recommend that you join a whale watching boat where the captain will use their local knowledge to increase your chances of finding not only whales and dolphins but other interesting marine life!

No visitor to the island should leave without first paying their respects to the volcano that dominates the skyline. There are many ways to get up close and personal with the Island and as the national park covers such a large area we recommend that you join a guided tour to get the most out of your visit. There are tours available that will involve some hiking and there are tours available where you can visit by bus also. You should be sure to make your way to the cable car that runs to the heights of Mt. Teide so that you can experience the volcano to the fullest!

Tenerife is a great base from which to visit some of its sister Canary Islands. Ferries run daily from Tenerife to Gran Canaria, La Gomera, La Palma and El Hierro, as well as a ferry that will take you to mainland Spain (provided you don’t mind the 35 hour crossing). You may use these ferries to hop from one island to the other or you could simply spend the day on one of the sister Islands, returning to Tenerife on the same day. If you are not familiar with your destination island it would be a great idea to book on one of the organised tours that will allow you to make the most of your time on your visit!

If you are even remotely interested in astronomy or astrology then one tour that is a ‘must do’ has to be the stargazing experience. This is a magical evening gazing upon the night sky and spotting constellations that are rarely visible from the light polluted cities in which we often find ourselves. This could be a romantic evening and maybe the ideal opportunity for a proposal or even to rekindle a relationship.

There are many ways to explore the island including public transport and car hire. For those of you wishing to get the most out of your day and see the main sights without any stress we recommend that you join a guided tour which as well as often being more economical will help you to visit the most important points of interest.
