Bodrum Turkish Bath

  Last Updated: July 7, 2024

Bodrum Turkish bath is a 2-hour traditional spa experience with sauna, scrubbing, foam massage and oil massage.

One of Turkey’s more charming and cultural tours is the Turkish Bath.  Since Roman times the ‘baths’ have been popular.  The central bath for the population to clean themselves has not always been about body cleansing.  Sultan Mehmet knew the value of the bath house and built many new sumptuous Turkish Baths when he took Constantinople in the 15th century.

Turkish culture adopted the then ‘Turkish Baths’ as places of social gathering, with days for families, women and children or men being separate.  Women would attend the bath to look for suitable wives for their sons, or simply catch up on the gossip with neighbours or friends.  As much a place of social gathering as a body cleansing ritual, today families in Turkey still visit the baths when they need extra relaxation or therapy.

Today, Turkey’s best kept secret is available for the discerning tourist in search of a truly authentic cultural experience.  With a professional masseuse, the Turkish Bath is a great way to get rid of the stresses and strains of everyday life.  When you leave the Bath, cleansed and with your muscles relaxed, you will be sure to want to visit again.

Bodrum Turkish Bath Experience

You may choose your preferred time to experience the Turkish Bath and times are available from 10:30 to 16:30 every day. The tour program begins when you are picked up from your hotel by luxury, air conditioned transport and taken to the Hamam.  Here you will be greeted by friendly reception staff and introduced to the different stages of the expereience by a professional masseuse.  If you have any skin allergies, it is at this point that you should tell your masseuse.

Your guide will talk you through the procedure and give you a hamam robe and a locker key, before taking you through to the private changing rooms.

Once you are changed you will be taken to the Sauna or Steam Room to begin the opening of the pores.  This is an essential part of the Turkish Bath as it opens the pores and releases the toxins built up in your skin.  This usually takes around 15 minutes, after which you will be taken to the main Hamam where you will see the ‘belly stone’ made of marble and placed beneath the domed roof for maximum heat.  Around the stone are many smaller marble seats with basins of cold water.  As you await your turn on the stone you can cool off using the brass basins provided, while you watch your predecessor’s Hamam treatment take place.

When it is your turn, you will be gently brought to the stone and made comfortable before your body scrub begins. Once the dead skin is removed, a rinse will take place, before the next stage, which will be a foam massage.  This is where a large pillow like cloth is filled with air, and a bar of soap creates the foam with which you will be washed.  The foam is massaged onto the body for the most relaxing experience, before being rinsed off and you are taken to the relaxation area.

Here you will choose to change and return to your hotel or participate in the oil massage and other treatments available upon request.  You will then be returned to your hotel left like you are walkig on air.

Q&A

How much is Bodrum Turkish Bath?

Cost of Turkish Bath Experience in Bodrum is 25 € for adults, 15 € for children between age 7 and 12, free for children under 6 years old in 2024.

What do i get for the price of a ticket?

Your transfer to and from your hotel are included as well as the Turkish Bath itself, incorporating Sauna, Scrub and Foam Massage. Insurance and use of hamam robe, fresh scrub mitt and professional masseuse are also included.

What should i take with me?

Most people wear a swimsuit for modesty beneath the hamam towel. If you choose to wear your underwear do bring fresh with you to change into later.

The Hamam can be slippery underfoot so we recommend you wear non slip footwear.  Care should always be taken when walking through the Hamam.

Bring some money  should you decide to opt for an extra massage or treatment.  Some Hamams also sell the products they use for you to recreate the experience at home.

You will be offered a Turkish Tea while you wait for you transfer to return you to your hotel, but cold drinks will be available on sale throughout your Turkish Bath if you wish to purchase them.

Should i go at the beginning or end of my holiday?

Do consider taking a Turkish bath at the start of your holiday rather than at the end.  The new skin cells will take several weeks before they beging to dry and flake off, enhancing any new tan for longer.

Can i swim afterwards?

It is recommended that you do not shower or swim for at least two hours after your Turkish Bath, giving the oils time to work to your skins best advantage.

Should anyone avoid Turkish Bath?

We do not recommend a Turkish Bath for anyone who suffers with asthma, have heart conditions, or pregnant women.

What is not included?

Any further treatments you may choose to have are not included and payable on site.  Several will be offered to you at a quoted price.

Any drinks you choose to purchase throughout your Turkish Bath experience.
