Istanbul Pamukkale & Ephesus Tour (2 Days)

  Last Updated: July 12, 2024

Istanbul Pamukkale Ephesus Tour is your chance to take to the skies in more ways than one. This fabulous two day tour incorporates a flight from Istanbul to nearby Denizli, from where you will be transferred by coach to the town of Pamukkale (Cotton Castle) and the home of the stunning white rock formations of calcified water, cascading into sky blue pools of water, down the mountainside.

This and the ancient metropolis of Hierapolis, with its streets and walls of antiquity still standing at the top of the travertines will leave you feeling like you have been flown to another world! You can bathe in Cleopatra’s Pool if you wish, and as if this history wasnt’t enough that is only Day 1.  The early evening sees you transferred to the resort of Kusadasi and your overnight hotel.

Day 2 sees you waking up in Kusadasi and taking a short transfer to the grand antique city of Ephesus.  The second largest city of the Roman Empire still holds sway with tourists to this day.  Walk the ancient streets and see the library of Celsius (its the one you see on your paper money), with its magnificent Roman amphitheatre and whole streets, intact for your perusal, this is an historian’s dream.

With the Temple of Artemis on the ouskirts of Ephesus (one of the seven wonders of the ancient world) and the house where evidence points to the Virgin Mary spending the rest of her days after the cruxifixion, there is so much to see.

Istanbul Pamukkale & Ephesus Tour Itinerary

There is an early morning pick up from your Istanbul hotel, taking you to the airport.  The flight lasts approximately one hour to Denizli airport and then you will continue with an onward transfer to the Cotton Castles at Pamukkale, with free time to explore.  You may swim or just walk about and enjoy the area. Then meet to explore the ancient city of Hierapolis at the top of the travertines.  Another swim opportunity at Cleopatra’s thermal pool.

Your third stop of the day will be Karahayit Red Springs.  At over 950 metres above sea level, you will again have the chance to enjoy this thermally heated pool, known for its healing properties.

Following your day at Pamukkale will be your transfer to the resort town of Kusadasi and your hotel for the night.  You will have you evening free time in Kusadasi to explore and take an evening meal.

Day 2 sees you waking up to a buffet breakfast at your hotel, before departure and your onward route to Ephesus.  The ancient city is approximately 8 kilometres from Kusadasi.  This will be a short transfer time.  Turkey has more than its fair share of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Ephesus is just one of them.  The Temple of Artemis is based just outside the city and the House of the Virgin Mary, where she is believed to have spent her last days, is also located on a hillside overlooking Ephesus.

With a short lunch break before the visit to the House of the Virgin.  Your last stop of the day will be Isa Bey Mosque at St John’s Basilica.  This name strangely enough translates to Lord Jesus Mosque and is steeped in antiquity.  Incidentally, the St John mentioned, is the same St John who wrote the biblical book of Revelation.  With this quite dramatic ending your tour comes to a close and you will return to Izmir airport (approximately 1 hour away) before returning to Istanbul, where a transfer will be waiting to take you back to your hotel.  You will arrive back feeling satisified that you have seen some of the most beautiful sites that Turkey has to offer!
